If I'm sunburned this must be Australia.

You wouldn't believe it, but the sun finally came out yesterday. After spending about forty minutes in the sun, I have a bona fide sunburn on the back of my neck, and it looks like my balding head has probably been burnt as well. Serves me right for leaving my hat in the car, I suppose - shouldn't try to do as the locals do without a base tan and really good health insurance cover!

Had a wonderful day yesterday - Dan and I got up early and were on the road by 6. Took the Parramatta Road out to the Blue Mountains, where we hooked up with Getabout Adventures tour company for a one day intro course to 4WD vehicles. Suffice it to say that the car Dan bought, a 1995 Toyota Landcruiser diesel - can handle just about anything. I had no idea cars could go to some of the places we went yesterday - I never though I'd find myself driving up steep walls of boulders, but the car handled it no problem. Saw some beautiful vistas of stranger landscapes than I've seen in a while; it all looks vaguely like a Dr Seuss impression of The Land Before Time. I'm not sure I'm entralled with the countryside around Sydney but it sure beats the vistas of Oxford St!

Today we should be able to finally register the car (thanks again Russel!), get better insurance, and get a head start on registation renewal in April. Kind of tedious but it's worth it to know that everything's good to go for the Outback. Oh, and we have to stop by a shop in Penrith at some point, likely after returning from Tasmania, to get better tires, a CB radio, and other stuff we're likely to need out in the back of beyond.
