Here's what they had to say about the Sarah's Vineyard 'Besson Vineyard' 2001 (Santa Clara Valley):
Our best value was from a small winery called Sarah's Vineyard, which always makes us smile because we remember the first wine we ever had from that winery. We were at a dark, intimate little restaurant where everyone seemed to be having an affair. We ordered the Sarah's Vineyard Chardonnay and it fit the mood perfectly: so rich and sensuous it was almost illegal. This was the first time we'd seen the Merlot and it was excellent, with great fruit flavors. The suggested retail price is $25. We paid $20 for it, but we later saw it at a store for $16.99, which is a world-class bargain.I've said it before and I'll say it again: you'd be surprised at the quality of the wines Dave's making down there in Gilroy! Yeah, it's not one of the better known areas for winemaking in California, but that's part of the reason the pricing's so reasonable, you know. Next time you're in the area on a weekend, why not stop in and have a taste? It's worth the short detour off the 101 - just take highway 156 about a mile and a half west and look for it on the right hand side of the road.
