I went here:
http://javadesktopsystem.sunwebtools.com/
and told Sun that I have one desktop PC in my corporation.
Their calculator told me this:
Compared to a Windows PC Desktop, the Java Desktop System and Sun Ray offer potentially dramatic savings in annual ongoing costs per desktop. Click Details to review all the factors driving the cost and savings. Click HW/SW Assumptions or Labor Assumptions to review/edit the assumptions underlying the calculations.
[lots of voodoo economics removed]
According to Sun, my single Windows desktop is costing me $81,065 a year to maintain - who knew? Silly me, I thought I spent about $800 on the machine and was done with it.
Anyhow, if I replace it with a Sun Java Desktop System box, I can save $40,227 a year - after spending $44,709 to migrate off of my Windows PC and onto a JDS box. This will result in $1,044.92% ROI. Wild!
