Surely this can't be worth $550?

Poor old umkinda's asked for a copy of You Shall Know Our Velocity for his birthday. Well, I have a copy... I've probably got a copy of every McSweeney's piece of crap ever published. Before McSwy's existed, I heard about them from... well, I don't remember. I was an avid reader of Might, and so sent in my check for a subscription to McSweeney's before they launched. As a result, I got the first issue the day it was released, signed by Dave Eggers himself, no less: "For a better tomorrow, Dave."

Unsigned copies are now going for somewhere around $550.

I had no idea Eggers had become a much-sought-after commodity. I'm now wondering if I shouldn't've bought the reprint edition for $42 when it came out [it's now upwards of $275 a copy]... same goes for Sacrament, the second, more-limited edition of You Shall Know Our Velocity. Didn't buy it as I thought $35 was too much to ask for what was a pretty crappy novel with a few dozen extra pages inserted [maybe he thought it would make it suck less?]; now, it's upwards of $45 and climbing. [I hear the UK paperback version has the extra pages included in the 2nd edition, but I have no way of finding out, of course.]

Vinnie, please tell me you'd like something else? I don't want to inflict Velocity on you, and I don't want to spend the $50 on a version that's at least 'collectible'... yes, I am cheap. Perhaps a bottle of wine instead?

Update: Looks like McSwy's have conviently provided a PDF of the pages added to the 2nd edition of You Shall Know Our Velocity - and yes, paperback reprints have this material included as well.
