Oh for the love of God.

I am so cold. Deeply, uncomfortably cold. It's warm enough inside the flat, but the second you step on the bathroom or kitchen tile, you are shocked into remembering that there is no downstairs apartment, and that somehow London got really cold over the last twenty-four hours.

When I stepped outside at Heathrow to look for a minicab stand (there weren't any), I was surprised at how cold it was. My jacket was in my luggage, so there I was standing like a Californian idiot, in long sleeved shirt and T-shirt with the sleeves rolled up, freezing. I thought it must have simply been an overreaction, because I'd checked the weather on Tuesday and it still seemed pretty okay (low 60s) to me. Plus, last November, it wasn't that cold in London, so...

Well, I was wrong. It is exactly 1 degree C outside right now. There is ice forming on the windows, almost. Today's high is supposed to be in the region of 8 degrees. That's, like, colder than it gets most nights in San Jose. And here I am in London, without my winter coat, having only brought my light jacket, a sweater, and a pair of long johns. What an idiot.

I suppose I'm going to have to trawl the Oxfam shops for an ugly, bedbug-infested woolen trenchcoat of some kind to get me through this.

I'm telling you, I had hoped to take off to Hawaii or the Cooks or someplace exotic and warm where I could do some hiking and have some tropical drinks, but somehow I agreed that Europe would be dandy. Brrrrrrr. Ah well, maybe the museum'll be good today at least...
