Oh thank God.

Windows XP SP2 is going beta soon - at least, that's the rumor. Looks like the XP firewall will finally be effective all of the time, not just most of the time. The rest of the changes look pretty good, although to be honest I don't fully grok stuff like execution protection [which at any rate doesn't affect me - right now it's an Itanium / Athlon 64 thing]. Sounds like a long overdue change. I bet folks over in the Windows group are still kicking themselves that they didn't ship with the firewall enabled by default - or at least with all ports off á la OS X...
