Birthday celebrations
Last night, I had a bottle of the 2001 Mazzoni Home Ranch from Ridge to celebrate. In retrospect, I should have waited for Dan to come home from rugby practice so that we could share it, but it was just so damned delicious that I couldn't stop. It changed every single time I had a sip over the course of three hours; my strongest memories are of gently fading cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice all backed up with a soft perfume of dust. I kept dozing off, thinking about how California has such a rich agricultural history, at least compared to Washington, and found myself wondering if Washington will ever create a truly great wine.
This morning, Dan surprised me with a fantastic book... which I can't remember what it is right now. I believe it's a UC Press book on wine history. Score!
Then, I got to have lunch with
iahklu, Brian, and Dan. Three cheers for Phil who braved Todai's awful vegetarian sushi [two different kinds!!!] - he's awesome.
Now, I'm off to a Moroccan restaurant in Belltown for more feasting. Yay!
