Fun with X11

Sometimes my testing involves actual phones, which are usually painfully slow to return the WAP sites I'm testing. So, when I'm testing on phones, I usually fart around on my iBook at the same time.

Today, I thought I'd have another go at compiling xscreensaver, something I've never successfully been able to do. Last time I tried, I had to start by downloading X11 from Apple. However, it looks like it's disappeared. I'm running OS X 10.2 Jaguar on the iBook largely because that's what the majority of OS X users are using as far as I can tell; it's important to us to have the lowest common denominator where possible. As a result, I can't upgrade to 10.3 Panther.

When Apple first released X11, it was available as a free download and it ran on Jaguar. Looks like they stopped making it available shortly after Panther shipped - now, if you want X11, you need to pay them $129 for a copy of Panther.

That combined with the fact that Safari keeps crashing while trying to download Fink 0.6.3 is really making me irritated with Apple this morning.

Either that or it's just that I'm irritated by slow phone WAP browsers. Ugh.
