Just updated my iBook to Mac OS X 10.2.8 - and now it can't get an IP address from the DHCP server. It's dead in the water. V. annoying.

Update: It actually does have an IP address. I can ping machines on my network by IP address, but can't resolve any host names. No browser can load pages by IP address or host name; Safari claims I'm not connected to the Internet, IE claims the server can't be found, Mozilla claims connections are being refused. Lovely.

Mystery fix!

Thank Steve for the glorious Permissions Wizard. I opened up the Disk Utility, switched to the First Aid tab, selected my hard disk, and clicked Repair Disk Permissions. After an hour, it finished. I rebooted, and now Mac OS X 10.2.8 is finally working correctly. Yay!

Looks like I'm going to Amsterdam. It's so strange - I've been there so many times. You'd think I'd've had enough of the place by now, but somehow I keep returning.
