OK, this might change my mind about Cornelius. The 3" promo CD I picked up in Ikebukuro, Drop, said it was only 5'03" on the sleeve, but whoops, it's actually almost 18 minutes long. Yup, it's got one of those "hidden bonus tracks" on it; it appears to be an aural cut-up of weird samples and snippers from his forthcoming album, from Nakameguro to Everywhere. It's... pretty cool. I have to admit, I didn't like his last album (what was it called? You know, the wacky orange bubble cover on Matador), but I think I'm slowly seeing the charm of Cornelius. Maybe it's just the having stayed up twenty-four hours and counting that's doing it, or maybe it's just that he's, like, totally cool and stuff.

Other CDs that I have yet to break into:

Steel Pole Bath Tub, Scars From Falling Down (with European bonus tracks)
Foetus, Blow
Ken Ishii, Millennium Spinnin' at Reel Up
Michael Jackson, You Rock My World (it was, like, four bucks, and I felt compelled to finally buy my first Michael Jackson item of any kind, sorry)
Haysi Fantayzee, Battle Hymns for Children Singing (ouch)
Nuggets: Luke Vibert's Selection
Ben Folds, Rockin' the Suburbs
FLR, Easy Filters
Gak Sato, Tangram
Paul van Dyk, Out there and back (again, ouch)
Gescom, Keynell (I think; this is a bubble wrapped CD)

Now, I assure you that I really do have sophisticated tastes, but I know you'll never believe me with dreck like this. I don't know what came over me in Tokyo, I really don't, but sometimes things just don't turn out the way you expect them to.

Oh, and before I forget: "Drukqs" is currently the #1 selling album at Tower Records in Shinjuku. It was weird seeing the album cover on a ten story high jumbotron just outside the JR station. Very weird. I mean, it's going to make it to, what, #120 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the USA?
