TN: Bonny Doon 'Bouteille Call' port [syrah/raspberry]

I had to go down into the cellar this evening to find a bottle of dessert wine to share with BC and LC when they arrive chéz Bear and Marmot for dinner tomorrow night, and while I was down there, I said, oh, fuck it, and brought up a bottle of the Bonny Doon to try all by my lonesome. I figured that not only would this give me a pleasant nightcap before going to bed in a bit, but that it might also be cool to show my guests the humorous artwork on the bottle, and who knows? Maybe they're big raspberry fans and I just didn't know it.

Anyhow. About the wine. This is a straightforward port made from shiraz [it reminds me vaguely of the good solid Clocktower Port that Dave turned me on to years ago - another fine Yalumba product IIRC], but it's definitely got that weird Bonny Doon framboise thing floating all over it. It's utterly schizophrenic and I'm not sure it really works for me. It's good qua port until the raspberry kicks in, and it's delicious if you love raspberry - as soon as you can get past the shiraz. You know, maybe only Hershey's peanut butter cups succeed at two great tastes that go great together; this kind of falls flat. Still, it's another bitchen Gary Taxali label, so who cares?
